Weekly Wednesday Class: Self Care for the Revolution

We are living in unprecedented times. This class will meet us where we are in the struggle for justice and liberation for all beings. I am offering this class free as my contribution to community care-  offering my skills and talents in service to the healing of all people working towards justice, and for those targeted by the current political class.

This class will focus on stress reduction via breath work, gentle and accessible movement, and practices which bring the student into the present moment. No experience is necessary.  We will learn and practice simple skills for calming and soothing your nervous system, and reducing chronic stress.

I have many years of teaching movement for people living with any kind of limitation in their ability to move freely.

This is a community class and is open to anyone, not just caregivers. Classes will be live weekly, online, Wednesdays at 6pm Pacific time. Classes will be 30-60 minutes long, depending on what we do that week. Sign up for this offering by emailing me at shannon@consciouscaring.net to register, and I will provide you with a meeting link.

About
Conscious Caring

I started Conscious Caring because after 25 years of caregiving, I saw a genuine need for people providing care or receiving care:

  • To create meaning and purpose in their work by connecting to their deepest values

  • To learn self care skills that actually work to keep the mind and body primed for calm and healing

  • To revision societal views of caregiving that demean the worth of the work. It's difficult to give so much of yourself when others devalue your work.

  • To uphold the principles of Disability Justice and advocate on behalf of disabled people

  • To have facilitated support communities where people  are invited to grow and develop emotionally and spiritually.

  • To address the lack of services and support for people living with chronic illness by providing what's missing: personalized care

About Shannon (she/her)

I am a somatic therapist and a health coach trained at Mayo Clinic.  I utilize therapies that bring people into greater connection with how their minds and bodies work together, with the goal of increasing peace and calm, and reducing stress.

I empower people to connect their active, busy minds to their bodies and spirits so they can live from a place of wholeness and integration.

I am not a licensed mental health therapist and I do not provide diagnosis or treatment for any medical conditions. My work can help treatment protocols be more effective. When people know how to reduce chronic stress and care for themselves better, they will often experience better health and well-being.

My career has been centered in healthcare, dedicated to working with caregivers, and to people living with disabilities.

My training and previous practice was grounded in the practice of yoga. I have since expanded the scope of my practice to include other somatic therapies which create balance in the mind and body.

I am also a published writer and have taught writing professionally. I enjoy teaching writing and helping people find their own way with words.

You'll find my work under either Shannon or Cyndi, but I'm still the same person!

Holding Hands
Soma means the physical body. When we work somatically, we focus on the functions and sensations in the body (i.e. breathing, moving, grounding). By becoming more aware of our bodies, we can also learn to influence how our minds function. We can positively affect our minds and nervous systems and prime them for healing.
Because of the lack of support, caregivers and people living with chronic conditions live with high levels of stress which can cause health issues and block healing.  Somatic therapy can heal chronic stress and lead to better health outcomes.
